Jinhua Wu Opera

Wu Opera is considered as one of the oldest local operas in China and the second largest opera in Zhejiang. Centering about Jinhua, it becomes popular in Jinhua, Quzhou, Lishui and the Jiangxi region. With a history of more than 400 years, Wu Opera is rich in repertories, mainly including six tunes: high-pitched tune, Kunqu opera, strum, Hui drama, Tan Huang play and Shi Diao tone. Wu Opera features arts of primitive simplicity & deep voice, strength & roughness, high-pitched tune & rich music and excellent skills in martial arts, which embraces distinct local characteristics. The traditional repertoire includes Broken Bridge, Couplets Matching and Monk and Nun.
