Recently, both the Founding Conference of the Chinese Council of BRICS Think-Tank Cooperation and the Wanshou Forum were held in Beijing. Luan Jianzhang, the head of the research section of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the CPC (IDCPC), hosted the conference. Guo Yezhou, Vice-minister of the IDCPC, attended the conference together with representatives of other councils members in the country.

Then, the Institute of African Studies at Zhejiang Normal University (IASZNU) was elected council member, and Liu Hongwu, Cheung Kong Scholar and Dean of the IASZNU, was elected the to the position of council member in China.

The Chinese Council of BRICS Think-Tank Cooperation is an unincorporated academic group founded by the IDCPC that aims to coordinate with the domestic research institutes of the BRICS and to facilitate non-governmental exchanges and dialogues within a framework of cooperation among the BRICS. The council sticks to the spirit of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation and aims to promote the exchange of research among the BRICS.

Currently, the council consists of 63 council units and 65 council members, both Prof. Liu Hongwu and the IASZNU included. It shows that the IASZNU has made distinguished contributions to the domestic academic study of the BRICS and had played an active role in BRICS Think-Tank cooperation.
