Lately, Aliresearch released the ranking list of E-Commerce Entrepreneurship Counties (Cities) of China 2016, in which Guangzhou, Jinhua, and Shenzhen rank the top three. Yiwu ranked first in the list of the Top Ten Taobao Village Clusters of China 2016.

According to statistics, there were 664 Taobao villages in 50 e-commerce entrepreneurship counties (cities) in China in 2016. In some rural areas, with dozens of Taobao villages, e-commerce start-ups have been booming.

Also noteworthy is that cross-border e-commerce start-ups began to emerge on a large scale in 2016. According to Aliresearch, the top ten cities that actively began cross-border e-commerce start-ups in 2016 were Yiwu, Yongkang, Yuyao, An’ping, Wuyi, Cixi, Zhangjiagang, Leqing, Ninghai, and Haining. In addition, Yiwu, Yongkang, Wuyi, and Dongyang ranked first, second, fifth, and twenty-fourth respectively in the top 25 counties that actively initiated cross-border e-commerce start-ups.

An analysis of the statistics of cross-border e-commerce start-ups shows that cities (counties) that rank top in these lists are closely associated with one or more competitive industrial clusters, like hardware in Wuyi, wire mesh in An’ping, and porcelain in Dehua.
