Before the launch of the fifth session of the Jinhua Homestay project, on the morning of June 20, Deputy Mayor of Jinhua Shao Guoqiang visited Suoyuan—the location of the upcoming session. The people in charge of relevant municipal and Jindong District institutions took part in the investigation and attended round-table talks.

Participants from 21 Countries Visit Jinhua’s Historical Villages

The participants are a group of 36 people from 21 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Italy, Norway, Pakistan, India, Mexico, Singapore, South Africa, Tanzania, Cameroon, Australia, Sierra Leone, Togo, Laos, Nigeria, Canada, France, and Myanmar. Additionally, a team of 14 domestic volunteers was selected out of a number of university students, particularly translation majors who will facilitate communication between international participants and local villagers. In order to achieve the project goals and to promote the features of both Suoyuan and Jindong District, in this session the participants are divided into four workgroups: Architecture, E-Commerce, Garden, and News.

By doing so, the four groups will not only focus on the conservation of local traditional features, but also on the development and promotion of Jindong District’s e-commerce and plant nursery industry. The accomplishment of the group tasks will be enhanced by a rich schedule of theoretical lectures and practical visits, which will help the participants gain a better and more comprehensive understanding of the local situation.

Innovative Suoyuan 2017

This is the second time that the Jinhua Homestay is held in the village of Suoyuan. This time, apart from the usual and popular visits to the Double-Dragon Caves and Wu Opera Theater, a trip through unique local sites is planned, including a pilgrimage to Zhizhe Temple, an overnight stay at Wong Tai Sin Temple, as well as visits to Guwu Yaohuo, Qingyanliu “Taobao Village,” and Jinhua Tencent.

In addition, the series of lectures will be further enriched by the introduction of a lecture on the establishment of the Belt and Road initiative given by relevant experts. The Institute of African Studies at Zhejiang Normal University is also supporting Suoyuan 2017 by organizing an African Movie Week, a chance for valuable cultural exchange between international and local participants.

The prestige of the Jinhua Homestay is spreading around Zhejiang. This time, the provincial Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries organized a trip to Hangzhou to let the participants visit the most representative sites of the city which hosted G20: Lingyin Temple, West Lake, Hefang Street, and Hangzhou CBD.

Director Zhang Hong explained that because the influence of the project is increasing, Jinhua’s Foreign Affairs Office designed a new logo for the project, combining Jinhua's flower—the camellia—the concept of Home Plus, and the mix of folk and international culture.
