On May 15, Bagatur, chairman of the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of the People’s Republic of China, visited Yiwu to investigate ethnic and religious work. He was accompanied by Lou Bingwen, chairman of the Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee of Zhejiang Province; Zheng Yuliang, member of the Jinhua Municipal Standing Committee, as well as secretary general and director of the United Front Work Department; and local leaders Sheng Qiuping and Dong Limin.

Bagatur and others paid a visit to Jinmingshan Community in Jiangdong Subdistrict, venues for Islamic activities, and the International Trade City. Later, they listened to an introduction about related work to gain a better understanding of minorities’ life and work in Yiwu. Bagatur commented that Yiwu helps minority groups to integrate into this city by holding various activities, including Mandarin training and e-commerce training, which contributes to both national unity and the development of minorities. He emphasized that ethnic work should start from analysis of the minorities’ needs, such as trying to help them solve problems and eliminate language, technical, and other barriers.

At present, the ethnic minority population in Jinhua is 133,400, involving 52 minorities. Among them, 130,200 are floating population. In recent years, Jinhua's management mode of ethnic and religious affairs, which combines education, guidance, management, and service, has been fully recognized by the national and provincial leadership.
