|Yiwu—Model City for Express Delivery|
On September 25, Yiwu was awarded the title “China Express Delivery Model City” by the State Post Bureau. With this designation, it became one of 25 model cities nationwide.
Yiwu has been a pilot city for comprehensive international trade reform for ten years. Its new types of trade and business have developed rapidly and the open economic system has promoted expansion, exploring new paths and providing new experiences for the progress of the national reform and opening up. Yiwu has so far established economic and trade relations with 219 countries and regions worldwide. Around 15,000 international businessmen from more than 100 countries and regions live in Yiwu.
Market procurement, having driven Yiwu’s export to increase by nearly 15 times in 10 years, has become an important mechanism for promoting the steady growth of foreign trade. Yiwu export containers account for about 14% of the total export container volume at Ningbo and Zhoushan Ports. The total number of market entities exceeds 640,000, accounting for about 7.5% of the total market entities in Zhejiang. Yiwu’s vast market has promoted the participation of 2 million small and medium-sized companies in global competition, and enabled more than 20 million industrial workers to be employed.
In March of this year, the State Council approved Yiwu to establish comprehensive bonded zones, issuing relevant documents on August 30 including Yiwu in the Zhejiang Pilot Free Trade Zone and enabling it to be a pilot city featuring higher-level integrated reforms.
