Affected by the spread of the pandemic, international shipping has been restricted and ocean freight rates are rising sharply, which highlights the importance of the international land logistics channel built by the China Railway Express (CRE). InJanuary, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce held a meeting to discuss the next steps for the CRE. The meeting proposed initiating high-quality development for the CRE and promoting its transformation from a logistics platform to a comprehensive trade service platform.

In 2020, CRE trains ran 1399 times (424 departing from Jinhua and 974 departing from Yiwu), a year-on-year increase of 129.6%. In total these trains shipped 116,000 TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 165%. The CREs operated by Jinhua’s and Yiwu’s platforms have 28 operation railways in total, connecting 59 countries and regions in Asia and Europe. The goods cover a wide range of industries such as hardware, textiles, auto parts, daily necessities, and engineering equipment. (By Xu Zhaohui, translated by Li Ziyi, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
