|7th Anniversary of CRE Trains|
On the morning of November 18, the Yiwu-Madrid China Railway Express (CRE) train, loaded with all kinds of goods, set off from Yiwu Railway Station, starting its regular journey across the Eurasian continent. November 18 is also the 7th anniversary of the opening of the CRE.
Over the past seven years, goods made in Yiwu, in Zhejiang, and in China have been transported to other Asian and European countries through the CRE trains, entering local shopping malls and supermarkets, and benefiting international consumers. In the same way, red wine from Spain, auto parts from Germany, crystal glasses from the Czech Republic, and other imported goods have been transported to Yiwu by the CRE trains, benefiting Chinese consumers.
After seven years of exploration and development, the CRE trains have 16 routes now with 101 overseas stations, running through 50 countries and regions in Eurasia and reaching major trading countries and regions along the Silk Road. Since their opening on November 18, 2014, the CRE trains have made 3200 trips in total. As of November 17, the CRE has launched 1150 trips from Yiwu this year, and shipped 94,698 TEUs, with a year-on-year increase of 41.1%.
The successful operation of the CRE trains lies in the cooperation and contribution of the Yiwu Railway Department, Yiwu Customs, the Yiwu Market Development Commission, Landport Group, YXE Trading Service Group, and other relevant departments and companies. They have developed special trains for transporting pandemic prevention materials, postal parcels, tea products, and other goods. These added trips of the CRE trains increased Yiwu’s trade volume during the difficult pandemic time.
In 2021, the Yiwu Market Development Commission introduced the Implementation Plan for the High-Quality Development of the CRE Trains, according to the spirit of the Symposium for the 5th Anniversary of the CRE Brand, and the guidance of the General Office of the Zhejiang Provincial Government on promoting the high-quality development of CRE trains. Yiwu plans to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of railway stations, begin the construction of a hub station in the German city of Duisburg, build 16 overseas warehouses along the CRE routes, and promote the digital reform of the CRE trains. Yiwu will also open the Yiwu-Kashgar-Central Asia highway/railway combined transport channels and the Yiwu-Kaliningrad-Rostock sea-rail multimodal transport channels. At present, the CRE trains have undertaken the transportation of goods from 15 provinces and cities, including Zhejiang, Shanghai, Anhui, and Jiangsu. The CRE has become an open and cooperative transportation channel for trade.
Next, the CRE will focus on digitization and financialization while retaining its characteristics and enhancing its brand, develop innovations in mechanisms and modes, and promote high-quality, market-oriented, and sustainable development.
