On the morning of November 23, during a demonstration meeting of the Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan Corridor in Yiwu, the X8020 China-Europe Railway Express (CRE) train—loaded with 100 TEUs of daily necessities, spare auto parts, nanometer materials, and party supplies—departed from Yiwu Railway Station to Madrid. This is the 663th Yiwu-Madrid CRE train since the first train set out in 2014.

This freight train loaded with commodities made in Yiwu and China is intended for overseas Chinese buyers: some overseas Chinese in Germany purchased handbags, leather belts, plastic toys, and photo frames; the chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful National Reunification in Poland purchased construction toys; some overseas Chinese in Spain purchased accessories of sweeper and paper gift bags.

Mr. Ying is an overseas Chinese businessman in Spain whose company purchases a large amount of clothing and decorations for Carnival every year. “I have been transporting goods by Yiwu-Madrid CRE trains since the very first train. Seven years have passed, and the value of trade in my company is rising with the increase in the number of trains. The CRE is worthy of its name as an Orient Express,” said Mr. Ying.

Experienced from its seven-year exploration, the routes of CRE trains run on 16 routes, connecting more than 50 countries and regions across Europe and Asia and totaling 101 overseas stations. These cover the main trade countries and regions along the Silk Road. (Text and photo by Wu Fengyu, translated by Wang Junwen, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
