At 10 a.m. on November 24, loaded with 100 TEUs of daily commodities and solar photovoltaic products, the Oriental Overseas Train for sea-rail multimodal transportation departed from Yiwu Railway Station to Ningbo-Zhoushan Port.

In 2021, with the in-depth construction of the sixth port area, Yiwu has strengthened its strategic cooperation and integration with Ningbo and Zhoushan; promoted the integration of shipping, port, and customs affairs; and developed sea-rail and highway-rail multimodal transport. This has attracted many shipping giants, including Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL), to expand their business to Central Zhejiang and set up branch offices in Yiwu for goods transportation.

As a strategic pillar for Zhejiang’s trade and a significant window for the Belt and Road Initiative, Yiwu has worked with OOCL to develop the customized train for sea-rail multimodal transport in order to further explore the resources of shipping companies, expand Yiwu’s export channels, enhance local transportation capacity, and significantly reduce the logistics costs of companies.

OOCL is a large-scale company specializing in international container transportation and logistics, with routes all over Asia, Europe, North America, and the Mediterranean. The opening of the Oriental Overseas Train provides another stable and fast transportation channel for companies along the OOCL’s routes, and brings more competitive and customized services to the companies.
