According to Jinhua Customs on March 12, Jinhua’s imports and exports achieved a total volume of 79.02 billion RMB from January to February this year, an increase of 53.2% from last year. Exports reached 73.51 billion RMB, an increase of 49.9%, while imports accounted for 5.51 billion RMB, an increase of 118.9%.

Multiple factors have contributed to the development of Jinhua’s trade, both imports and exports. Firstly, growth in overseas consumer demand has driven the city’s export growth. Overseas companies’ production suffered from the continuous spread of the pandemic, but consumer demand increased. Secondly, during Spring Festival this year, Jinhua encouraged employees from other cities to stay in Jinhua for the celebration. Many companies did not stop work and production. They prepared raw materials and completed order delivery ahead of time, which stimulated the rapid growth of imports and exports. Lastly, imports and exports fell by 21.6% year over year in the first two months of 2020, which also contributed to the larger increase this year.

In terms of exports, mechanical and electrical products, clothing, plastic products, and textile products are the most-traded commodities. In the first two months of 2021, the exports of these commodities reached 32.5 bn RMB, 6.71 bn RMB, 6.21 bn RMB, and 5.63 bn RMB, respectively, a year-over-year increase of 66.5%, 29.2%, 54.1%, and 59.0%. The imports of agricultural products accounted for 2.30 bn RMB, a year-over-year increase of 63.2%, while the imports of mechanical and electrical products as well as unwrought copper and copper materials surged, reaching 780m RMB and 690m RMB, a year-over-year increase of 416.9% and 78.3 times, respectively. Additionally, imports of textile products reached 540m RMB, a year-over-year increase of 163.6%. (By Hu Zhenan, translated by Zhang Jiajia, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
