On June 12, according to the National Development and Reform Commission, the China-Europe Railway Express (CRE) had made 1,357 trips and shipped 131,000 TEUs of goods in May, an increase of 31% and 40% compared to the same period in 2020. As of the end of May 2021, the CRE trains had made nearly 40,000 trips and transported approximately 3.55 million TEUs of goods since its inception, reaching more than 160 cities in 22 European countries.
The leading group promoting the construction of the Belt and Road went to Khorgas, Xinjiang, to conduct special on-site investigations and meetings regarding the CRE. Ning Jizhe, deputy director of the Office of the leading Group and of the National Development and Reform Commission, asserted that the CRE, as a new mode of transportation across continents, countries, and long distances with large volumes, represents the “China Plan” of participating in global opening up, building the B&R, and promoting the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind. It has jointly become an international brand widely recognized by countries along the B&R. (By An Bei, translated by Zhang Jiajia, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
