On June 25, the first session of the Moments in Jinhua, a project jointly sponsored by the Publicity Department of the CPC Municipal Committee and the Foreign Affairs Office (FAO) of Jinhua Municipal People’s Government, was launched in the county of Pan’an. Thirty international participants from 18 countries, including South Africa, Russia, Italy, and Ukraine, gathered for two days in Pan’an to follow the footsteps taken by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his work in Zhejiang. They visited the splendid rural areas of the county, experienced traditional local culture, and learned about the provincial practices and achievements in rural revitalization.

Then Secretary of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, General Secretary Xi, visited Pan’an twice in 2003 and 2006. On such occasions, he affirmed that the ecological enrichment of Pan’an was the right way. Over the past 18 years, Pan’an has unwaveringly followed the development strategy of “ecological enrichment of the county and the people,” and led locals on the road to “common prosperity.”

“I came to Pan’an with great excitement and anticipation, and it has been a pleasant and fruitful journey,” Gert Grobler, former senior diplomat at the South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation, was pleased to say that as soon as he arrived in Pan’an, he was amazed by the beautiful scenery of the mountains around the county.

“We chose Pan’an, a mountainous county, to let the Jinhua-based internationals learn about the beautiful rural construction and experience traditional Chinese culture, such typical features of our municipality,” said Guo Zhongming, director of Jinhua FAO. Mr. Guo also said that the event was the first one of the Moments in Jinhua series; through this first window on Pan’an, an increasing number of internationals will hear, see, and read about Jinhua, presenting a true, multi-dimensional, and panoramic view of Jinhua to the world, helping Jinhua to go global and the world to learn about Jinhua.

On the occasion, a roundtable discussion was held in the village of Juxi, Pan’an on June 26. Participants, who included IASZNU senior researcher Gert Grobler, ZNU Professor Shkvar Yevhenii, Fudan University PhD candidate Marco Lovisetto, and entrepreneur Kamil Ahmerd Hama Rash expressed their views on regional economy and trade, science and technology, education and culture, and discussed topics related to the great changes of and future visions for Jinhua. GERT JOHANNES GROBLER (SOUTH AFRICA), FORMER SENIOR DIPLOMAT AT THE SOUTH AFRICAN DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND COOPERATION

It is indeed a great pleasure, as an African, to share this informative and pleasant trip with you. I wish to thank the Municipal People’s Government of Jinhua for this opportunity to visit the beautiful Pan’an County–an outing which, as you can see, is thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. We as foreign guests are extremely grateful for this opportunity to learn and experience more about Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, and China, with its remarkable culture and resilient people. Events like this contribute significantly to better mutual understanding and solid friendships.

SHKVAR YEVHENII (UKRAINE), PROFESSOR AT ZHEJIANG NORMAL UNIVERSITY, WINNER OF THE 2018 ZHEJIANG WEST LAKE FRIENDSHIP AWARD

The two-day trip enabled us to more fully appreciate traditional Chinese history and culture through the beautiful county of Pan’an, which made the deepest impression in all of my five-year living experience in China. All the beautiful places in Pan’an we went to, such as the tea plantation, where we got to pick tea, the incredible combination of the old architecture in the ancient villages, and the ancient academies with modern elements, will be remembered in my heart.

MARCO LOVISETTO (ITALY), INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS PhD STUDENT AT FUDAN UNIVERSITY, CHINESE-ENGLISH-ITALIAN FREELANCE TRANSLATOR, RESEARCHER IN TRANSLATION STUDIES

I came to Jinhua in 2011 and lived here for several years. In my eyes, the campus of ZNU is very beautiful and large. Although I am now living in Shanghai, I still care about Jinhua and return here whenever I get the chance. After visiting so many places, I feel that the efforts made by the Jinhua municipal government in the protection and inheritance of its culture are to be applauded. I am particularly delighted to see the ancient villages use their cultural and architectural resources to develop tourism, to boost people’s prosperity, and to further promote the protection of cultural heritage.

KAMIL AHMERD HAMA RASH (IRAQ), MANAGER OF YIWU QANDIL CONSULTING BUSINESS SERVICE

This is an unforgettable and pleasant experience. We appreciate the beautiful scenery and unique traditional culture of Pan’an County in Jinhua. We love China and we love Jinhua! I first came to China in 2005 and when I came to Yiwu in 2006, I didn’t want to leave. I worked as an import and export consultant there. I also helped found the Iraqi Chamber of Commerce in Yiwu. Life in Yiwu is very convenient. There are many internationals, and we can communicate with each other. Our life and work here is very happy.

CHEN XINSEN, MEMBER OF THE STANDING COMMITTEE OF THE CPC COMMITTEE OF PAN’AN COUNTY AND HEAD OF THE PUBLICITY AUTHORITY OF PAN’AN

The rapid changes of Pan’an have contributed to a beautiful and richer Zhejiang and China. Today, we invite our international friends to come to Pan’an, to see the ancient villages, appreciate the culture, taste the food, feel the charm of traditional Chinese culture, experience Jinhua’s landscape and humanity, and witness its prosperous life and rural revitalization. We want Zhejiang’s culture to go abroad, while more of our international friends can come in to unlock the code of China’s development and success in Zhejiang.

GUO ZHONGMING, DIRECTOR OF THE FOREIGN AFFAIRS OFFICE OF JINHUA MUNICIPAL PEOPLE’S GOVERNMENT

Thank you for coming with us to witness the great changes made by China over the past century. As you said in the sharing session, China has made remarkable progress in recent years and the people of Jinhua have also shared the dividends of real development. These achievements would not have been possible without the hard work and courage of the Chinese people, as well as the efforts of everyone present. With your knowledge and international vision, you will become an important force in the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
