Monday, May 31 is the World Health Organization’s 34th World No Tobacco Day. Tobacco control is part of urban civilization as well as an important index for the development of a healthy city.

In 2017, the State Council issued the “13th Five-Year Plan of Medical Treatment & Public Health,” which, among other things, stated a goal to control the smoking rate of residents over 15 years old to under 25%. In 2020, the smoking rate of residents over 15 years old in Jinhua has reached 18.25%, meeting the requirement and showing that tobacco control in Jinhua is working well.

Since the implementation of the “Regulations on the Promotion of Civilized Behaviors in Jinhua” on May 1, 2019, Jinhua has been committed to becoming a tobacco-free city. The health supervision departments from municipal and county-level governments have enhanced the enforcement of tobacco control in key locations such as hospitals, hotels, schools, shopping malls, supermarkets, and barbershops. Companies or individuals who violate the regulations will be punished. (By Wang Weiying, translated by Li Ziyi, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
