Jinhua to Build New Combined Transport Zone

In August, the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce and the Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission held a meeting on the China Railway Express (CRE) in Jinhua.

The meeting was chosen to be held in Jinhua because Jinhua is the first and only station of the CRE in Zhejiang, and the Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe Railway Express (YXERE) is the only sub-brand of the CRE in Zhejiang. In addition, at the previous Promotion Conference of the Zhejiang Free Trade Zone, Yuan Jiajun, secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, showed high expectation for the YXERE – that it will achieve 3,000 trips per year in the near future.

The YXERE was started from scratch, taking seven years to become the fastest-growing CRE platform in the past two years. It is expected to reach about 1,800 to 2,000 trips this year. However, the capacity of the Jinyi New District and Yiwu Railway are close to their “ceiling.” Jinhua needs to find a new breakthrough opportunity.

Perhaps just that is coming with the East China International Combined Transport New Zone that Jinhua Communications Investment Group has been planning and promoting since 2020. This new zone is the future of the YXERE and will improve the development of Jinhua. Both the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce and the Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission have clearly stated that they will fully support its construction.

The initial planning area of the zone is about 30 square meters, of which the core area is about 8.8 sq. m. The new transport zone plans to build a high-speed railway express area, an international combined transport area, and a storage and trade area with an area of over 1.5 million sq. m. It will cooperate with the Jinyi Comprehensive Bonded Zone to create an international combined transport hub port and promote the development of the YXERE and rail-sea combined transport. The new zone will have an annual throughput capacity of 58 million tons, becoming a first-class hub port in China.

In the grand “chessboard” of the East China International Intermodal New Zone, more “chess pieces” will come and join the game in the future: international combined transportation, port services, cross-border e-commerce, warehousing, financial services, etc. to bring new opportunities to Jinhua.
