After the coronation ceremony of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, a coronation concert was held at Windsor Castle on the evening of May 7 in London. During the musical drama of Romeo and Juliet, the circular LED screen above the stage and the outer wall of Windsor Castle displayed slowly rotating planets. Surprisingly, this projection work was designed by a 25-year-old woman from Yongkang named Huang Liangqia. Chinese mythological elements like the Phoenix were the inspiration for her work.

Huang Sits in VIP Seat to Witness the Historical Moments

The coronation concert was the highlight of the celebrations for the coronation of King Charles III. Distinguished guests, 20,000 British people, and members of the British royal family, including Prince William, Princess Kate, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte, attended the event.

Thanks to the excellent work projected on stage, Huang Liangqia was also invited to witness the historic moment from the VIP section in the Windsor Castle Courtyard, where she had close contact with other distinguished guests. The entire concert was synchronously broadcast globally on BBC ONE. According to BBC News, the number of live views reached 277 million on May 7.

Huang is a graduate student majoring in information experience design at the Royal College of Arts, which ranks first in the world in the field of art. Nearly 20 works from this school stood out at this concert, including Huang’s work.

Huang Shows the World Elements of Jinhua

On the official website, the introduction of Huang’s works is as follows: “It is a dialogue between the starry sky and observers, like an invisible force passing through magnificent planets and dazzling stars”. In her own words, it depicts the cycle of water from rainwater to rivers and then to the sea, highlighting the endless flow of life and showcasing the power of existence.

Many works in the coronation ceremony contained traditional Chinese elements, which made Huang feel the cultural confidence of the Chinese people. Huang was born in 1998 and is a native of Yongkang. She studied watercolor at Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts for her undergraduate degree. In the past two years, her works have made frequent international appearances. In 2022, she participated in the UN World Ocean Day Information Experience Design Exhibition organized by the British Academy; At London Design Week, her work was nominated for the finals.

Huang will graduate from the Royal College of Arts in the UK this year, and she plans to return to China to specialize in artistic creation. In the future, Huang hopes to incorporate more Jinhua elements into her designs and showcase her hometown to the world. (By Wang Lei, translated by Wei Han, edited by Daniel Haws)
