In order to deepen the exploration and practice of Jinhua’s foreign exchanges and demonstrate the efficiency of China’s governance, the Standing Committee of the Municipal People’s Congress invited overseas students in Jinhua to enter the Jinhua National People’s Congress for the first time to experience the whole process of People’s Democracy. Fu Xianming, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People’s Congress, attended the event. In a conference room, 30 international students from 23 countries learned about the people’s congress system and the whole process of people’s democracy through video, presentations, and on-site explanations. The meeting room hosts a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People’s Congress every two months. On the bimonthly occasion, participants deliberate over work reports and decide on important matters. Under the guidance of the staff, the international students experienced a simulattion of voting on the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and voted on the local draft regulations. “I feel very lucky to have been able to experience Chinese-style democracy first-hand upon my recent arrival in Jinhua,” said Mulan from Laos. The People’s democratic process includes five steps: democratic election, democratic consultation, democratic decision-making, democratic management, and democratic supervision. The international students also experienced these five steps to understand how the Jinhua National People’s Congress ensures that the people’s right to be the master of the country is truly implemented. A Nigerian student known by her Chinese name, Wang Qian, has been in China for seven years, and this was the first time she experienced China’s fundamental political system up close. “This event gave me a better understanding of the Chinese Communist Party. I saw that the people are at the center, and the people’s opinions are discussed and respected.” (By Du Xiaoping—Jinhua Daily, English text edited by Kendra Fiddler)
