First half of the year, the Yiwu China Commodities City Exhibition Group led Yiwu enterprises to Indonesia to secure orders. To prepare for the 2023 Indonesia International Gifts & Housewares Expo, a pre-event briefing was held to cover topics such as visas, participation procedures, and site inspections. Yiwu companies participating in this exhibition made meticulous preparations for their trip to Indonesia. One of the exhibitors, Gui Haiqin, carefully inspected more than 100 products that were to be showcased in Indonesia. The 2023 Indonesia International Gifts & Housewares Expo, which began in 2019, has already successfully completed two editions. It is currently the largest and most professional B2B exhibition for gifts and household items in Indonesia. The event took place from August 24 to 26, 2023, at the Jakarta International Exhibition Center. The exhibition featured four main sections showcasing everyday products, kitchenware and tableware, storage and organizational items, as well as gifts and promotional items. The event was expected to attract over 12,000 professional buyers from Indonesia and neighboring countries like Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Participating in international exhibitions is the most direct and effective way for foreign trade companies to secure overseas orders. According to feedback from various foreign trade factories, exhibitions contribute significantly, accounting for 30% to 50% of new customer acquisitions. A major Yiwu-based foreign trade company stated that their primary channels for foreign trade orders include exhibitions, social media, and referrals from existing customers. Impressively, orders secured through exhibitions and subsequent follow-up interactions make up more than 90% of their total orders. Indonesia, the largest economy in ASEAN and the fourth most populous country globally, has consistently maintained a growth rate of 5%. In 2022, Indonesia’s GDP reached 1.28 trillion USD, ranking it as the 16th largest economy worldwide and the 8th in terms of purchasing power. This solidifies Indonesia’s position as one of the most significant and dynamic markets in Southeast Asia. Since the launch of the 2023 Indonesia International Gifts & Housewares Expo, the Commodities City Exhibition has received numerous inquiries from interested companies, leading to a rapid booking of all available booth spaces. With support from the Municipal Party Committee and Government, as well as guidance from the Municipal Bureau of Commerce and the Foreign Affairs Office, the Yiwu Group successfully secured 54 exhibition booths. Furthermore, an exclusive overseas exhibition area was established for the Yiwu International Fair. A total of 41 enterprises from Yiwu and its neighboring regions participated, spanning a diverse range of industries including daily essentials, quilting, gift packaging, handicrafts, small household appliances, jewelry, toys, and stationery. The person in charge of the Commodities City Exhibition noted that this move to Indonesia is a significant step for the Yiwu China Small Commodity City brand, marking its expansion into Southeast Asia and its effort to support local businesses in exploring this promising market. In the second half of this year, amidst the complex landscape of foreign trade, Yiwu is once again embarking on a journey to explore the Southeast Asian market with its significant population of 670 million people.
