Zhejiang Southeast Asia Symposium
Post Time: 05/12/2017

On October 31, the 2017 Zhejiang (Jinhua) Southeast Asia Trade and Investment Symposium held its opening ceremony in Jinhua.

Shao Guoqiang, deputy mayor of Jinhua, and Zhang Qingshan, vice president of the provincial China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), attended the event and delivered speeches. Siti Nugraha Mauludiah, consul general of the Consulate General of Indonesia in Shanghai; Tean Samnang, consul general of the Consulate General of Cambodia in Shanghai; Wu Zhiyi, president of the Thai-Asian International Trade and Investment Association; national government officials; and more than 70 foreign guests of major business associations and enterprises attended the symposium. The relevant departments of Jinhua Municipal Government, Jinhua Development Zone, and Jinyi New Urban District, along with leaders of counties, cities, and districts, and 300 representatives of enterprises from Jinhua were present at the symposium.

Southeast Asia is a major focus for the Belt and Road Initiative. Southeast Asian countries and Jinhua have much to offer each other economically and share great potential for cooperation. The symposium aimed to seize new opportunities for cooperation, build a platform for cooperation between Jinhua’s enterprises and Southeast Asian countries, bring economic cooperation to a new level, expand into the international market, and promote Jinhua’s integration into the Belt and Road.

Shao Guoqiang extended a warm welcome to all the guests and delivered an introduction on Jinhua’s achievements in economic and social development, including Jinhua’s positive conditions for economic and trade cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road. Jinhua highly values economic and trade exchanges with Southeast Asian countries.

During the conference, the international delegations visited the Jinyi Integrated Free Trade Zone, the Cainiao Logistics Center, and a new energy-efficient vehicle factory, which provided them a better understanding of the advanced manufacturing industry and network economy in Jinhua. The successfully organized symposium brought a much more thorough understanding of the policies and investment environments in Southeast Asian countries. The meeting between Chinese and foreign enterprises also laid a foundation for the next step of negotiating exchange and cooperation. (Translated by Nataliia Litvinova, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
