Yiwu's Pakistani Independence Day
Post Time: 05/09/2017

On the evening of August 14, the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the Pakistani Independence Day were held in Yiwu. Naeem Khan, consul general of Pakistan to Shanghai; local leaders of international departments of Yiwu; and over 400 Yiwu-based Pakistanis attended the event.

Mr. Khan praised the tradition of Sino-Pakistani friendship and its significant cultural value. He also commented that the Belt and Road Initiative has brought about historical opportunities for the development of cooperation between Pakistan and Yiwu.

At the ceremony, Huang Weiyong, director of the Yiwu Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, gave a speech and emphasized that last year, the trade value between Yiwu and Pakistan exceeded 1 billion USD—evidence the great importance that the city attaches to the development of the dual relationship. Additionally, he pointed out that the city is committed to constantly improving the quality of life of Yiwu-based Pakistani citizens. (Translated by Marco Lovisetto, edited by Xiamara Hohman)
