Malaysians Encouraged to Understand Yiwu
Post Time: 03/09/2018

Mahathir bin Mohamad, prime minister of Malaysia, encouraged Malaysians to work to understand China and learn more about Yiwu.

On the afternoon of August 19, when Mahathir attended the launching ceremony of Malaysian Translation of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese Literature” in Beijing, he encouraged the Malaysians to read these famous works. He also recommended further reading, including the English version of Yiwu, China: Research on the Worlds Largest Small Commodities Market. He hopes that through these translated editions, Malaysians can understand more about Chinese literature and culture.

Mahathir pays special attention to Yiwu and encourages his people to actively learn about the city. One major reason is that in recent years Yiwu’s market has gone global and has connected to the worldwide market under the Belt and Road Initiative. To date, the freight volume of the China Railway Express has been doubled from year to year; the Czech Republic Station along the Belt and Road, which Yiwu helped to construct, has implemented projects such as the freight yard, logistics park, trading center, and more; the construction of the Africa Stations and the Dubai Station are also launched. In addition, Yiwus airport has opened nonstop flights to Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand. (By Cao Xiaorong Yiwu Shangbao, translated by Jin Haiqiong, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
