Nilos is the chief manager of the Yiwu office of LuLu Group International, one of the largest retail chains headquartered in the United Arab Emirates. In 2004, he came to Yiwu for the first time to purchase goods. With the expansion and development of Yiwu’s market, the company’s business has grown over the years.

Working in Yiwu: like a fish in water

After graduating from a university in southern India, the 20-year-old Nilos gained employment with LuLu Group International. Every year, he had to visit Guangzhou’s commodities fair to look for products they needed. There, he learned that many of the articles of everyday use were from a place named “Yiwu.”

In 2004, his company’s office in China moved to Yiwu. With his experience and professional knowledge, Nilos became its manager.

Introducing Yiwu to the world

With the rapid development of Yiwu’s market, the Yiwu office gradually became one of the most important branches of LuLu Group International. To quote Nilos’ own words, he “grows” with the Yiwu market.

There were only three people at the Yiwu office in China in the beginning, Nilos recalled, and the products they bought were few. However, nowadays they purchase vast amounts of product, the total annual volume of which reaches 100 million USD.

Nilos is planning to hold an “Yiwu Festival” in LuLu malls globally to promote Yiwu’s products and Yiwu City to more businessmen from the Middle East, Africa, and India.

Being a local in Yiwu

Nilos has been in Yiwu for 15 years, since he was 21 years old. His joy at seeing the development of the city is beyond words because he has adopted Yiwu as his home.

Nilos visits the International Trade City every day and can always find surprises in its vigorous market. (By Huang Yujie, translated by Sun Yin, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
