Hardware City’s Development
Post Time: 09/10/2018

The year 2018 is the 40th anniversary of China’s reform and opening up. In the past 40 years, great changes have taken place in China, including in Yongkang, the “Hardware City of China.” In 1992, China’s Science and Technology Hardware City was built in Yongkang, which initiated a new era for Yongkang’s economic development.

1992 was a key year in Yongkang’s story. On December 21 of that year, the opening ceremony for the completion of the first phase of the Hardware City and an investment meeting was held in Shuanggu Jincha Village, Yongkang. The development of the Hardware City has since continued.

Yongkang hosts two physical markets Jincheng Market and Jindu Market along with “Shangwj” e-commerce platform and an international convention center of 170,000 km2 in the Hardware City. Many business areas for daily use hardware, building hardware, electromechanical equipment, metallic materials, and decorative building materials can be found there. Tens of thousands of goods sell to more than 170 countries and regions worldwide. The Hardware City is a place that realizes the integration of hardware production, trade, product information, the exhibition fair, and an online market.

The year 1996 showed the steady development of the Hardware City. The first China International Hardware Fair (CIHF) was held in the square of the Hardware City on October 6, 1996. In the four-day fair, the gross merchandise volume reached 569 million RMB, greatly exceeding the target of 200 million RMB. As the largest, most effective, and most influential international hardware fair, the CIHF has been held for twenty-three years with a larger scale, higher popularity, and greater achievements each year.

If the CIHF was a successful start for Yongkang’s economic development, the China (Yongkang) International Door Industry Expo (CIDIE) since 2010 can be regarded as the professional guide for the city’s economic development. The CIDIE has been held nine times and has become a vital platform for exporting Yongkang’s hardware to the world and attracting international hardware to Yongkang.

E-commerce development has led the Hardware City into a new era. In February 2015, the E-Commerce Industry Development Company was founded in the Hardware City, which marked the start of e-commerce development in Yongkang. The first hardware index, titled “China Yongkang Hardware Index,” was released at the 18th CIHF on September 26, 2013.

Via the website of China Yongkang Hardware Index, hardware producers, purchasers, and operators from China and all over the world can keep abreast of the latest developments in the hardware market. Companies and businessman can track the changes of the index so as to produce marketable products, choose the operating categories and timing of purchase, adjust prices, and optimize inventory.
