Wu Opera Performs in North Carolina
From September 6 to 12, at the invitation of University of North Carolina at Greensboro and the Organizing Committee of the North Carolina Folk Festival, and recommended by the Chinese People’s Friendship Association, a delegation of 31 people from the Yiwu Heritage Protection Center of Wu Opera traveled to the United States to participate in the 2nd North Carolina Folk Festival, performing at local universities. In the four-day event, the delegation performed The Crossroad (Sanchakou) and Borrowing a Fan (Jie Shan) and other classical plays for the audiences.
After the performances, the delegation also visited the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Guilford College, delivered four lectures on Wu Opera, and did two shows, which were well received by the teachers and students.
The North Carolina Folk Festival is hosted by the government of Greensboro of North Carolina, with an annual audience of approximately 150,000 visitors. In recent years, Wu opera troupes have performed in Turkey, South Korea, France, Italy, and more, spreading the love of traditional Chinese opera around the world.
