Prof. Lu Peiyong Lectures on Arab Culture
The School of International Business at Jinhua Polytechnic invited Professor Lu Peiyong from the School of Asian and African Studies at Shanghai International Studies University to give a lecture entitled “The Concepts and Characteristics of Arab Culture.” More than 60 Arabic teachers and student representatives attended the seminar. Professor Lu is a researcher at the Middle East Research Institute, a member of the China–Middle East Society, and a special expert in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Government. He has served as an Arabic translator for national leaders several times.
From the aspects of cultural composition, cultural characteristics, development history, and contributions to world civilization, Prof. Lu gave an overview of Arab countries along the Belt and Road (B&R), such as their development status and prospects; the history of Sino-Arab friendship; and the future direction of Sino-Arab economic and trade exchanges.
On the basis of surveys and interview records, he not only analyzed the influence of the B&R Initiative on the development of Arab countries and local people's lives, but also pointed out that Yiwu, an important city along the B&R, has attracted a large number of Arab entrepreneurs, which offers numerous opportunities to Arabic-major students.
Prof. Lu hopes that students learn Arab culture and customs in greater depth to meet the needs of the B&R markets, to improve regional economy, and to be cultural ambassadors. After the lecture, Prof. Lu also gave detailed answers to questions raised by students on how to improve their language-learning ability and how to better understand Arab culture.
