Late-Night Classes from Canada

Post Time: 2020-03-18
On March 5, a short video made by teachers from Puyang No.1 Primary School in Pujiang County entitled “Late-Night Classes from Canada” was posted on the Xuexi Qiangguo platform, and it soon blew up on WeChat Moments. It was then that the students of Class 5, Grade 4 at this school learned that their class teacher Chen Yueping had stayed up late and given them online lessons for nearly three weeks from Toronto, Canada.

Because her husband and son were studying in Canada, Chen Yueping flew to Toronto to reunite with them at the beginning of this winter vacation. The sudden outbreak of COVID-19 in China kept her in Toronto.

Her class started at 3 p.m. Beijing time, which was 2 a.m. in Toronto. In order not to affect the rest of her family and the landlord, Chen Yueping gave online lessons in the living room late at night from Monday to Friday. After class, she just slept in a folding bed by the computer. The darkness and coldness at night never stop Chen from caring about her 44 students thousands of miles away. (By Zhou Xuan, translated by Shen Yingying, edited by Mariam Ayad)
