Int’l Poetry Festival in Yiwu
Post Time: 08/01/2018

If by life you were deceived

Don’t be dismal, don’t be wild!

In the day of grief, be mild…”

On December 28, the 2018 New Year Poetry Festival was held in Yiwu Industrial and Commercial College (YICC). International students from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Morocco recited the celebrated poem “If by Life You Were Deceived” by the famous Russian poet Alexander Pushkin in Russian, French, and Chinese.

YICC has quite a few international students from various countries. The poetry festival was organized by the Silk Road Association of YICC, a platform for cultural communication of the countries and regions along the Belt and Road. Nearly 40 international students from Iran, Syria, Columbia, Cuba, and ten other countries recited famous poems—from their countries and from China—in ten languages.

“China has a rich culture, and we are interested in it. This poetry festival is an opportunity for us to have a better understanding of Chinese culture, and to show our culture to China,” said He Han (his Chinese name) from Kazakhstan. (Translated by Li Ziyi, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
