Nationally-Recognized Innovative City
Post Time: 09/05/2018

The Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission recently released their Letter of Support for the Construction of a New Batch of Innovative Cities. Jinhua and Shaoxing are two of the seventeen cites included on the list.

According to the letter, these cities are required to place a special emphasis on the construction of innovative cities in order to realize innovation-oriented development. Previously, 61 cities in 30 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions were already listed as nationally-recognized innovative cities, including Hangzhou, Ningbo, Jiaxing, and Huzhou in Zhejiang. So far, as six of its central cities have participated in the construction project, Zhejiang is ranked second in the country, following the Jiangsu Province.

In recent years, Jinhua has launched a series of measures to promote creativity in the city and speed up the transformation of its county-level economies to city-level economies, including the construction of “Three Corridors”: the Jinhua-Yiwu Sci-Tech Corridor, the Mid-Zhejiang Ecological Corridor, and the Comprehensive Transportation Corridor. One such example, the Jinhua-Yiwu Sci-Tech Corridor begins in the Jinhua Economic and Technical Development Zone; passes through the Jinhua Hi-Tech Industrial Park, the Jinyi New Urban Area, the Yiwu Economic and Technical Development Zone, and characteristic towns; and ends at the Yiwu Information Optoelectronics Hi-Tech Industrial Park, creating an “innovation pole” that will lead to the city’s development.
