Yiwu’s Trade to Africa

According to Yiwu Customs, in the first half of 2018, Yiwu’s exports to Africa exceeded 34.75 billion RMB, an increase of 10% over the previous year, accounting for 24% of Yiwu’s total export volume.

At present, there are over 2500 foreign merchants from more than 50 countries and regions of Africa residing in Yiwu, and 95,000 foreign businessmen come to Yiwu each year. Among the exported products, mechanical and electrical products, clothing and accessories, plastic articles, and other labor-intensive products are Yiwu’s major exports to Africa.

Additionally, China has a huge customer market, which also creates commercial possibilities for African products. In the African Products Exhibition Center of Yiwu Imported Commodities City, there are a variety African products, including tea leaves, woodcarvings, and decorations in the shape of ox horns.

The African Products Exhibition Center in Yiwu Imported Commodities City has become a gathering place for many African merchants to display and sell African products. There are over a dozen national pavilions, including those from South Africa, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Madagascar, Sudan, and Kenya, which sell more than 5000 different kinds of African products, such as ebony products, handicrafts, and jewelry.

Statistics show that Yiwu’s exports to Africa have grown steadily in recent years. In 2016, Yiwu’s exports to Africa reached 50.55 billion RMB, an increase of 2.7% over the previous year, and in 2017, exports to Africa were valued at 53.31 billion RMB, an increase of 5.5%.
