Jindong’s Sino-American Poetry Dialogue
Post Time: 27/09/2018

On September 17, the second Sino-American Poetry Dialogue was held in Jindong District, Jinhua, which was sponsored by the Poetry Institute of China, the Chinese Poetry Research Institute of Peking University, the Jinhua Municipal Party Committee Propaganda Department, and the Jindong District Government, and organized by the Jinhua Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office. Ten poets from China and the United States attended.

In the morning, the poets visited Ai Qing’s hometown, where they appreciated the simple yet elegant architecture. In the afternoon, held in Bishui Manor, the dialogue focused on the theme of the New Poetry Movement in the modern world and explored the new impulse of poetry to seek modern themes and expressions to keep up with modern industrial society. This is in the spirit of a saying of the poets: ancient Chinese poetry influenced Ezra Pound, whose poetry in turn influenced Chinese poets. This is a circle where poets interact and learn from each other.

In the evening, the “Jinhua’s Night” Poetry Reading was held at Shi Guangnan Music Square, at which the poets read their original poems. In addition, the awards ceremony for the first Micro Poetry Contest was held, with information given regarding the second one. (By Xia Binting, translated by Pan Yinghua, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
