First African Student Forum
Post Time: 03/01/2019

On December 25, the first African Student Forum was held at Zhejiang Normal University (ZNU). Unlike the general forums, this forum is a combination of academic speeches and cultural performances, including keynote speeches, roundtables, an awards ceremony, African dances, and musical performances.

Liu Hongwu, Changjiang scholar and dean of the Institute of African Studies at ZNU (IASZNU), delivered a keynote speech titled “Thirty Years of Learning in Africa.” Thirty years ago, he went to study at the University of Lagos in Nigeria, starting his academic expedition into African Studies. He hopes that those African students who come to China with dreams will see China as their second homeland—just as he takes Nigeria as his.

Wang Heng, secretary of the General Party Branch of IASZNU, and Yang Wenjia, associate dean of IASZNU, also attended the forum. The African Student Forum was sponsored by IASZNU and organized by the Center for East African Studies and the Center for Nigerian Studies.
