Neolithic Site in Yiwu

The Archaeology Forum of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences for New Archaeological Discoveries in 2019 was held in Beijing on January 10. At the forum, six projects were selected as new major archaeological discoveries in China in 2019, and seven other projects were nominated. The Neolithic site in Qiaotou Village, Yiwu was one of the nominated projects.

Located in the Chengxi Subdistrict of Qiaotou Village, Yiwu, the site was discovered in 2012. It was a typical settlement in the middle and late period of the Shangshan civilization, about 9000 years ago. The workers have already dug 28 archaeological trial trenches for the excavation of the site, covering a total area of 2400 m2. At present, the excavation has been processed to the 8th stratum. The 5th to the 8th strata reveal Shangshan civilization. (By Li Suning, translated by Jin Haiqiong, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
