Post Time: 2020-02-03
The Spring Festival, full of customs and traditions, is the most significant festival for the Chinese nation. In the eyes of foreigners, it is very special and mysterious. For overseas Chinese, it is by no means less important.

As the Spring Festival approached this year, appointed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Chen Meilan’s new repertoire creation team from Zhejiang Wu Opera Academy (Wu Opera Theater) performed from January 7 to 21 in Nigeria, Djibouti, Tanzania and other three African countries. They conveyed their good wishes of the new year to people there and hoped to bring them joy. The 34 staff members in the troupe visited three cities in three countries and gave seven performances. Everywhere they went, enthusiastic audiences marveled at their wonderful performance. At the end of their trip, they also visited the Confucius Institute at the University of Dar es Salaam, where they interacted with teachers and students, which drew a successful conclusion to this African visit.

It is the 12th consecutive year for the troupe to stage abroad, appointed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, to celebrate the Festival overseas. They have so far visited 49 countries and regions. (By Xia Binxuan and Cheng Min, translated by Lin Yuqin, edited by Mariam Ayad)
