Post Time: 2020-02-03
At the Chinese New Year Gala for international students at Zhejiang Normal University (ZNU), Chinese and foreign students gathered to celebrate Chinese New Year.

“Little” Chinese New Year (小年 Xiǎonián in Chinese) falls on January 17, usually the 23rd day or 24th day of the 12th lunar month. Representatives of international students staying at school over the break from various colleges gathered together with Chinese students to celebrate the traditional Chinese festival. Zhu Jian, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of ZNU, attended the event and delivered a speech.

Zhu Jian announced to the students the achievements of ZNU in 2019: obtaining 5 new post-doctoral research spots, ranking third in the country’s universities; creating 13 newly-approved national first-class majors; releasing 3 academic papers that were listed in the top 100 most influential international academic papers in 2018, ranking second among all the universities in China; winning two gold medals and five bronze medals in the national competition “Internet +” for innovation and entrepreneurship, ranking first among national teachers’ colleges and eighth among all national universities with regard to the number of gold medals; the school was awarded for the sixth time as an advanced Chinese Cooperative Organization of Confucius Institutes, currently the only university in China to receive this award five times in a row; and it has ranked among the top 100 universities in China for 10 consecutive years as to comprehensive strength.

Zhu pointed out that ZNU has obtained all its achievements through the hard work of all the teachers at ZNU, and the year 2020 will be a critical year for the school to “create excellence and compete for the A class,” competing for being a first-class university. Zhu hopes that all the teachers and students will continue to forge ahead with passion and courage to defeat challenges and achieve their goals.

He sends his New Year greetings to all teachers and students, and he made dumplings with the students to celebrate the New Year. Both Chinese and international students gave wonderful performances such as martial arts, dance, guitar, and audience- participation games . (Translated by Zhang Jiajia, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
