First Light-Rail Tunnel Opened
The section of the light-rail going from Bayi South Street Station to Wanda Plaza Station crosses the Wuyi River, and the tunnel is 1883 meters long. On March 10, 2019, the shield tunneling machine on the left line of the section started from Bayi South Street Station and drove from west to east. It was originally planned to arrive at Wanda Plaza Station at the end of February this year, but the sudden outbreak of COVID-19 affected the construction plan after the Spring Festival.
“Most of the 40-person shield construction team is from the northeast of China. Except for 13 people staying at the construction site in Jinhua, others returned to their hometown to celebrate the New Year,” explained a spokesperson of the project department of Zhejiang Hongrun Construction Group Co., Ltd., the company in charge of this section of the project. A few days after the Spring Festival, some of those workers flew or drove over. From the second day of the New Lunar Year, many of the workers returned, and after the 14-day quarantine, they anticipated the resuming of work.
On February 13, the construction of the second section of the Jinhua-Yiwu-Dongyang Light-Rail project was resumed. On February 17, the tunnel construction team fully resumed work with over 40 construction workers racing against time.
The Jinhua Rail Transit Group stated that 2020 is the year when the Jinhua-Yiwu-Dongyang Light-Rail project will be carried out, sparing no efforts. In order to ensure a new upsurge in construction, all companies and workers involved will strive to achieve benchmarks in efficiency, quality, safety, innovation, and integrity. Additionally, the effort to realize the Jinhua-Yiwu section by the end of this year will lay a solid foundation for the opening of the section in 2021.
