5G Coverage Throughout Yiwu’s Urban Area

Post Time: 2020-05-21
On May 16, the 5G network experience activity 5.17 Telecom Day was held. 1200 base stations have opened in Yiwu, and 5G network coverage is nearly complete in the urban area. Yiwu is the second city in Zhejiang to have 5G network constructions, reflecting Zhejiang’s prioritizing of 5G in many aspects, including the advanced preparatory work, equipment, and resources, and the number of base stations built.

In March of this year, The Implementation Opinion of the Yiwu Municipal Peoples Government Office on How to Drive the Development of the 5G Industry was issued by Yiwu’s government. It puts forward two-year construction goals: in 2020, the 5G network coverage map will include the main city, professional parks, and town centers. In addition, 5G trials and pilot zones will be built in some key areas, including Yiwu International Trade City, medical institutions, traffic hubs, expo centers, and Yiwu Port, as well as some key industries such as e-commerce, logistics, and more.

In 2021, the 5G network coverage map will expand to the countryside and achieve full coverage for towns and villages so as to further realize 5G application and accelerate the building of a leading 5G city in Zhejiang. In two years, 3000 base stations will open, and the investments in the building and remolding of iron towers, the equipment of base stations, transmission networks, and 5G machine rooms will be over 600 million RMB. Currently, these projects are being jointly accelerated by China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom. (By Wang Ting, translated by Wang Junwen, edited by Kendra Fiddler)
