On October 11, the PBL-top Phenomena Observatory for ecological and environmental observation in China was put into operation in the Shanghuang Village, of Liucheng Town. The She ethnic minority group reside here in Wuyi County.

The Shanghuang observatory of PBL top-level ecological and environmental observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences is planned and designed by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is built at the top of Damao Mountain in the village of Shanghuang, Liucheng Town. It rests at an altitude of more than 1100 meters at the junction of Wuyi, Suichang, and Songyang counties.

The observatory is responsible for the detection the physicochemical structures of the atmospheric boundary layer, observations of atmospheric turbulence and energy exchange, atmospheric composition flux, and environmental capacity. It will observe and study the physical, chemical, and biological composition of clouds and mist, and provide accurate data support for national scientific decision-making to guide ecological and environmental decisions. This will help build a beautiful China and achieve “carbon neutrality” and “14th Five-Year Plan” development plans.
