The city's foreign trade export exceeded 500 billion RMB, accounting for 2.5% of the country as a whole, and its foreign trade strength jumped to 18th nationwide. The city achieved an import volume of 55.37 bn RMB in 2021, ranking the top in Zhejiang. It centered on the following efforts to witness marking progress.

First of all, it focused on One East and One West to establish a logistics hub between land and sea. To the east, Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan transports by port. In 2021, the sea rail intermodal transport volume accounted for about one-seventh of the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, becoming one of the busiest sea rail intermodal transport routes in China. To the west, the Madrid-Yiwu Train from China to Europe departed by port. In 2021, the number of trains exceeded 1,900, ranking third nationwide.

Secondly, it focused on One Big and One Small to establish a commercial hub. Big refers to bulk commodities. The advantages of Jinyi Comprehensive Bonded Area in district port linkage shall be brought into full play to build a bulk commodity trading and delivery center. Small means small commodities. The first import commodity trade hub characterized by adequate links, comprehensive industrial chains, varied categories and all-weather service was built by relying on Yiwu Comprehensive Bonded Area.

At last, it focused on the Belt and Road Initiative and open the portal hub in both directions. The institutional innovation in Jinyi District of the Free Trade Zone is deepened, and public overseas warehouses cover more than 50 countries and regions. The global layout of eWTP was promoted in a market-oriented way, and more efforts are being made to build an important fulcrum and dual cycle hub city of the Belt and Road.
