ZJNU Hosts Seminar on University Governance for Developing Countries

On August 10, the Seminar on University Governance Capacity Enhancement for Developing Countries, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and organized by Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU), commenced at ZJNU. Zhang Genfu, vice president of ZJNU, participated in the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. The ceremony was attended by 28 participants from 11 countries, including Panama, Nigeria, Mauritius, Nepal, South Africa, Iraq, and Cuba.

Zhang Genfu, on behalf of the university, welcomed all the attendees and provided a brief overview of the university’s background and notable accomplishments in international collaboration and communication. Zhang expressed the hope that this workshop would foster strong friendships, establish lasting channels for communication and exchange, facilitate mutual learning, and promote the enhancement of university governance systems and capabilities.

Mary-Ben Dania, deputy director of the Educational Planning and Research Department at the Federal Ministry of Education of Nigeria, addressed the audience as a representative of the participants. She believes this seminar will help developing countries understand China’s university governance model and learn from its successful practices.

This seminar extends over a period of 21 days, combining lectures, discussions, site visits, and cultural experiences. Throughout the program, participants will visit Hangzhou, Huzhou, Shanghai, and other cities, where they will have the opportunity to engage in discussions with administrators from some of China’s leading universities, including Zhejiang University and Shanghai Sport University.
